About the case
This case represents one of the most complex treatment programmes delivered at Caliora — a full-mouth rehabilitation for a patient in her mid-thirties who had not visited a dentist in over eight years due to severe dental anxiety.
At the initial consultation, the patient presented with multiple failing restorations, advanced generalised periodontitis with 6mm pocket depths in the posterior sextants, three teeth with non-restorable prognosis, and extensive interproximal decay. She was committed to addressing her dental health comprehensively.
- Full periodontal assessment including pocket charting and radiographic bone level mapping
- Three teeth identified as non-restorable and treatment planned for extraction and implant replacement
- Full anxiety management protocol agreed including sedation for surgical appointments
Stabilisation phase
The treatment began with a six-month stabilisation phase: periodontal treatment across all sextants, replacement of failing restorations with long-term temporaries, three extractions with simultaneous socket preservation grafting, and careful trust-building with the patient.
- Full-mouth debridement completed across four appointments under local anaesthesia
- Socket preservation grafting at all three extraction sites
- Temporaries designed to establish the planned occlusal vertical dimension
Implant and restorative phase
Following a five-month healing period and reassessment of periodontal stability, six implants were placed across two surgical sessions. The upper arch was restored with an implant-supported bridge and four ceramic crowns; the lower arch with individual ceramic crowns on implants and natural teeth.
"I cannot explain how much this has changed my life. I spent years being ashamed of my teeth and now I actually look forward to smiling."
